Protected Women and the Elderly from Abuse
Following graduation from law school, Maria worked to protect women and the elderly from abuse. As a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Maria accepted an oath to serve justice and uphold the laws of the State of Indiana. In that position, she worked as the Coordinator of the Domestic Violence Unit helping women and children seeking justice for domestic violence and protecting the elderly from abuse. She also assisted in collecting thousands of dollars in child support as the Director of Child Support Enforcement.

Experienced in the Courtroom
Maria is experienced inside the courtroom having conducted numerous hearings as well as bench and jury trials. She has prosecuted various misdemeanor and felony cases. She also successfully completed the National District Attorneys Trial Advocacy course.

Selected by Governor's Office to Protect Families & Children
In 1997, Maria was selected by the Office of the late Governor Frank O'Bannon to represent the Floyd County Office of Family and Children. She served two years in this capacity. During this time she conducted many hearings in an effort to support and protect our Floyd County families and children. Maria also provided legal support to families living alongside the Ohio River who were affected by the 1997 flood by helping to relocate them to safer areas.

Continued her Work in Private Practice
Maria continued her work in private practice in a law firm and as a solo practicing attorney. Since 1999, she has been a licensed Indiana title insurance agent helping homeowners protect against title defects. Maria is a member of the American, Indiana State and Floyd County Bar Associations. She is a past member of the Sherman Minton American Inns of Court and the National Association of Trial Attorneys.

Shared her Legal Experience with IUS Students
In 2002, Maria shared her experiences in the law with students in the classroom. She has taught for four semesters as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Indiana University Southeast where she has taught for four semesters.

Devoted Wife and Mother
Maria is a devoted wife to her husband, Steve, and mother to the children they share together, Drake, Sarah and Steven. Drake is an honor roll student and plays basketball, and Sarah is studying to become a Registered Nurse. Steven, an Army Medic, was killed in action in Iraq courageously serving our country. Maria and Steve spend as much time as they can with grandson, Andrew. As a Gold Star Family, they want to share with Andrew everything good wholesome and true about his daddy, a true American hero, and the country for which he laid down his life.
